WELCOME
MODEL BUILDERS!
This
is the site for the nostalgia buff who loves those radial engine classic airplanes
of the 30's and 40's. In the post-Lindbergh days round engines were king. Pilots
wore leather helmets, scarves, goggles and boots. Roscoe Turner designed his own
"pilot's uniform." "Wrong-Way" Corrigan was in the news. Amelia
Earhart disappeared into history and controversy. Air travel was simpler, yet
more daunting. The great depression was on its way out. Bread was a nickel a loaf,
men wore fedoras, and Rosie the Riveter was building "Gooney Birds."
1/12
Scale plans are 3 or 4 full size sheets. Easy instructions. For scratch build
or display/RC or electric models.
T
& D Classic Airplane Model Plans really got its start when Tom was building
models at the age of nine and designing them by the age of ten. His first job
was designing wind-tunnel models for the United States Navy BuAer. Always air-minded,
he served in the United States Air Force, studied engineering and, among other
things, enjoyed a career in designing airplane components and aircraft composite
tooling.
Tom
learned to fly on the GI Bill and has owned several airplanes and gliders. He
is currently building an RV-6 kit plane in his garage. His favorite golden
age airplane is the Cessna 195 although it wasn't a classic when he owned
one.
Now retired
and occasionaly consulting, Tom brings his experience to his first love...classic
round engine airplanes!
The
list of our vintage aircraft plans is impressive. You'll have fun building (and
flying) these great planes from yesteryear.
